Staff Spotlight ~Marci DeVries     Marci DeVries and FAmily

  • Equine Program Coordinator
  • PATH International Certified Instructor
  • Certified Secondary Teacher
  • Summer Horsemanship Day Camp Coordinator

Marci first came to Equest Center in 1997 as a volunteer while she was in high school.  She was soon hired to clean stalls and, as time went on, became more and more involved with the program. In 1999 she dove into the detailed education, testing and certification process to become an official PATH International instructor(Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) and quickly became a favorite instructor of many. In 2000 Marci took over the job of Summer Horsemanship Day Camp Coordinator, infusing it with new exciting activities and experiences. In 2004 she also added the title of Equine Program Coordinator to her list of responsibilities. Marci’s love of horses is what first brought her to Equest but it was the kids and all the fun that kept her coming back.

As Equine Program Coordinator Marci’s job is to find and train horses for the program.  She was a main factor in the content and creation of the EQUEST HORSE SEARCH VIDEO showing qualities and capabilities needed for a Therapy Horse. She also coordinates the maintenance and health of our beloved therapy horses with help from the Assistant Equine Program Coordinator and rest of the staff.

One of Marci’s favorite memories of her time at Equest was when Rob proposed to her in the arena.  Of course she said “Yes!”  Rob and Marci met while volunteering at Equest. Their first home as husband and wife was at Equest Center where they lived on site as property managers before moving to Cedar Springs. ♥

Marci stays busy outside of Equest too!  She homeschools her two girls, Becca and Erin, is a leader in the 4-H group Leather-N-Lace, and spends any free time she does manage to find she spends reading about horses.

Equest is a better place because of her knowledge and love of horses that she shares with all of us.  Thank you Marci for all you do!
