Equest Center in the News

Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding, Inc. was established as a State of Michigan non-profit corporation in June, 1990 and received its IRS 501(c)3 designation two months later. The first therapy class began in February, 1991 with 16 riders.

Today 125-150 riders, ranging in age from 2 to 90, enjoy the benefits of Equest each week, with a waiting list of disabled children hoping to participate in our program.

Equest is a Member Center of the North American Riders of the Handicapped Association (NARHA) and is one of only 3 therapeutic riding programs in Michigan that owns it's own farm complete with an outdoor riding arena and a heated 66x110 indoor arena, barn, observation room and rest room.

Our facility is the ONLY year-round facility in the area. Vital to the program's success has been the contribution of an army of volunteers who donated 13,800 hours of service in 2006 alone!

In December of 2005, Equest completed a purchase of 15+ acres of property adjacent to the facility. This land is critical to our Center. By purchasing this property, Equest has acquired additional buildings for storage and office facilities, preserved existing pasture land, and provided the opportunity for additional therapy options, especially outdoor riding options such as the creation of riding trails to offer an expanded multi-sensory experience.
